Bladder preservation after lymph node removal and a combination of chemotherapy and radiation

Surgical removal of the bladder in muscle invasive bladder cancer is considered the preferred treatment. It is currently unclear whether that is justified. A combination treatment of chemotherapy and radiation shows promising results. These treatment results of radiation and chemotherapy, preceded by minor lymph node removal surgery, are currently investigated in clinical trials, comparing the treatment to the results of bladder removal surgery.
