Research: surgery possible as a result of prior treatment?

The Netherlands Cancer Institute is currently researching a specific kind of prior treatment for patients with metastatic melanomas in the lymph nodes that are hard or impossible to operate.

We are the only institute in the world to offer patients eight weeks of dabrafenib and trametinib tablets after which we assess whether the metastases have adequately shrunk in order to receive surgical treatment. This provides a patient group with a new chance to become eligible for surgery. The results of the Reductor study up to now seem promising.
