I have been working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute since 2004. I started out as an oncology nurse, and after obtaining my Master Advanced Nursing Practice diploma (in 2011), as a clinical nurse specialist. I now focus on patients with prostate, testicular, or bladder cancer in need of medical treatment. These are usually patients with metastases. I also spend one day a week at the outpatient clinic.
There are many new developments within the field of oncology. As a clinical nurse specialist, I want to ensure that all my patients receive clear information. I want to know what my patients experience in terms of survivorship and to adjust my care accordingly. For me, working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute means working together in a team. Not just with my expert colleagues, the general practitioners, or other healthcare providers outside of the Netherlands Cancer Institute, but also with my patients and their loved ones.
