Guillaume Le Roy is a Dutch graphic artist. His woodcuts and etchings are characterized by a lyrical-abstract style. Le Roy mainly worked in black and white tones. In the early seventies he had a short colorful period in which he focused on primary colors. The works hanging in the NKI are from this period.

For his work he used old planks that often came from demolished buildings. By using weathered planks, the structure of the wood comes out well on paper. About his black and white prints and the dark tone in his work, Le Roy said: "In the end, I look for the light. But without mystery, there is no clarity; Without questions, there are no solutions. Those who seek daylight cannot do without the awareness of the darkness of the night." Guillaume Le Roy wanted to make the unspeakable visible with his work and considered this to be the most important task of an artist.
