Jan Tervoort
Prof. dr. G.M.M. Bartelink
No guts, no glory
Jan Tervoort made this stained glass work on the occasion of the farewell of Prof. G.M.M. Bartelink in 2007. The work is a free interpretation and abstraction of Bartelink.
Bartelink (1946) was a radiation oncologist and professor of clinical experimental radiotherapy. From 1985 to 2007 he was head of the radiation department of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital, where he was committed to the development of radiotherapy. Major innovations and technological developments were identified by him at an early stage. Together with his employees, he made a major contribution to the improvement of radiation techniques.
The NKI has several works by Tervoort in its collection. The majority consists of colorful cast abstractions in epoxy. Experiment is an important motivation for Tervoort; In the realization of the cast works, he is guided by the material and the influence of gravity. He does not consider any of his works to be 'finished', but all the works together are part of his search and experiment.
Tervoort started his career in Bali, Indonesia. In 2005 he returned to the Netherlands where he settled in the historic center of Monnickendam. His work is sold and exhibited internationally.
