House rules

Together we ensure a safe and pleasant environment

At the Netherlands Cancer Institute, we want everyone to feel welcome and safe. That is why we have drawn up house rules that apply to patients, visitors and employees. By complying with these rules together, we can provide good care and create a pleasant atmosphere.

1. Emotions are allowed to be there – aggression is not

A hospital visit can evoke many emotions. We understand that. You are welcome to express your feelings, and so are our employees. We do not tolerate aggression. This includes:

  • aggressive language
  • Intimidation
  • Discrimination
  • physical violence

Our employees act according to the same standard and hold each other accountable.

2. Treat each other with respect

We think it is important that everyone is treated kindly, politely and with respect. This applies to patients, visitors and employees themselves. We respect each other's backgrounds, beliefs and personal boundaries.

3. Respect privacy

Privacy is essential in our hospital. Would you like to take a photo or video of a patient or employee? Always ask for permission first.

Our employees will do the same: they will not take images without permission and actively guard your privacy.

4. Stick to visiting hours and appointments

By following the visiting times and agreements made together, we keep peace and overview of the departments. Our employees also work according to fixed agreements and procedures to properly organize care for everyone.

This way we keep a pleasant atmosphere together

We create a pleasant environment together. Both in and around the Netherlands Cancer Institute. This way we can give our patients maximum attention and the best care.

  1. Fixed times and numbers for visits: You can visit the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek on every weekday between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm and between 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm with max. 2 visitors. On weekends from 10.30 - 20.00 hours. Please note: are you visiting someone in the Intensive Care Unit? Then take a look at the visiting hours of the Intensive Care Unit. Would you like to bring a companion to your appointment at the Netherlands Cancer Institute? Then take a look here.
  2. Calling where allowed: Mobile phone calls are allowed, but not everywhere. Calling is not allowed on the 2nd floor, the Radiotherapy department and within 1 meter of medical equipment. Where it is not allowed, this is clearly indicated.
  3. Non-smoking environment: Smoking is not allowed in and on the grounds of the Netherlands Cancer Institute.
  4. Free of alcohol and drugs: Alcohol and drug use are not allowed in and on the grounds of the Netherlands Cancer Institute.
  5. Free of dangerous objects and weapons: You must not carry dangerous objects and/or prohibited weapons. If you do, they will be taken into custody and you may be denied access to the hospital.
  6. Emergency exits only in case of emergency: Use our emergency exits only in case of emergency. Keep corridors, doors and especially escape routes and emergency exits clear.
  7. Parking where it is allowed: Bicycles, mopeds and scooters may only be placed in the bicycle racks or in designated places. Folding bicycles can be stored in a special safe, which goes through the reception. Other parking is available in the parking garage.
  8. Waste in the bins: Together we keep the hospital clean. Dispose of waste in the waste bin.
  9. Trade-free: Collecting, trading, surveying and distributing posters or flyers is only allowed with the written permission of our Board of Directors.
  10. Valuables safely stored: Unfortunately, theft also occurs at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. We have lockers available for storing valuables. Our reception can inform you about this.

In case of violation of the house rules

We assume that our house rules are just as self-evident to you as they are to us. If you do not comply with our rules, you may be addressed by an employee and possibly removed from the Netherlands Cancer Institute. In case of serious violations, we can call in the police.

Dissatisfied?

If you are dissatisfied, we would like to hear from you. This way we can improve our care. Can't figure it out together? Then you can file a complaint. You can read how that works on our complaints handling page.
