Speech Therapy

The speech pathology therapists at the Netherlands Cancer Institute are specialized in rehabilitation for problems with swallowing, speaking, or voice after treatment for cancer in the head and neck area. Speech therapists can help you with problems involving your hearing or language as well.

Your first consultation with your speech therapists can take place before, during, or after your treatment. This depends on the type of procedure you will have and the problems you are experiencing or will experience. Your speech therapy may aim to improve articulation after surgery on the tongue, improve the quality of your voice after radiation delivered to the vocal cords, or train the salivary glands if you are experiencing problems swallowing. Speech therapists can offer advice to eat and drink as safely as possible.

The speech therapists at the Netherlands Cancer Institute are part of the Head and Neck Cancer Center as well as the multidisciplinary head and neck rehabilitation team.
