Information for general practitioners
You can refer your patients to the NKI for (rapid) diagnostics, second opinions or further treatment. Referrals from general practitioners go through ZorgDomein.
We offer rapid diagnostics for many types of cancer. All relevant examinations take place as much as possible in one day. The patient also speaks to all the specialists involved and the patient is discussed within the multidisciplinary team (MDO). In most cases, the patient has a preliminary treatment recommendation on the same day.
        ZorgDomein
Referrals to general practitioners to the Netherlands Cancer Institute are made via ZorgDomein. The transfer of information from you to our medical specialists also takes place via ZorgDomein.

Determining circulating tumor DNA
The Netherlands Cancer Institute offers referrers the opportunity to request a circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) analysis. To do this, go to our laboratory forDNA diagnostics.
Overview of ongoing trials
Some of the trials have a Dutch summary suitable for patients. These are here on the website.
Phase 1 study
If there are no more regular treatment options for your patient, there may still be experimental treatment options in the context of the so-called phase 1 studies. If you want to know if your patient may be eligible for one of our phase 1 studies, you can send a short email to fase1@nki.nl.
If you provide at least the following information in the email, we can assess whether your patient could possibly participate in an experimental treatment in our hospital and whether referral for this is useful. We aim to answer your email within a few days.
Minimal data in mail:
- Referrer Name
 - Referrer's phone number
 - Patient Name
 - Patient's date of birth
 - Tumor type
 - Previous treatments
 - Known results of molecular diagnostics

NB: Are you a patient and do you want to know if you are eligible to participate in a phase 1 study? Then ask your treating specialist to contact us.
