Since 2022, I have been working as a clinical geneticist at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. At my consultation hours I see people who have cancer themselves or who have a family history of cancer.
In addition to patient care, I conduct scientific research within medical ethics. Due to the technical developments in DNA research, more and more is possible with genetic research. This allows us to answer patients' questions more and more often. At the same time, new technical possibilities also raise ethical questions. If we can extract more and more information from DNA, it is also important to think about what can be done with that information, for example. I think patient control is very important here.
