Marjan Admiraal
Since 2009 I have been working as a clinical physicist in Radiotherapy, and from 2024 at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. I am responsible for the correct dose calculation in patient treatments, and for the GammaKnife, a device specially designed for brain radiation.
A clinical physicist is closely involved in implementing improvements for patient treatment. A recent development to which I have contributed is the development of online adaptive radiation, in which the dose calculation is accurately tailored to the anatomy of the patient on a daily basis. This allows the tumor to be treated as well as possible with minimal damage to healthy tissues.
I am proud of my profession and my colleagues at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, because through good cooperation, we can quickly put these kinds of innovations into daily practice.
