Since 2001 I have been working at the NKI as a medical social worker, relationship therapist. We provide psychosocial care to patients in all phases of the disease process. Important topics are dealing with fear and uncertainty and processing the cancer.
You don't have cancer alone. Being ill has a lot of impact in relationships. I see many couples and guide them in the field of providing insight into what the cancer means to them, but also: what is appropriate support, how do you also take good care of yourself and stay connected to each other.
I also give CALM therapy, a psychotherapy for patients in the palliative phase. I find it very special and motivating to be able to walk with patients in this vulnerable phase of their lives and to be an anchor in them so that they and their loved ones can handle this process. In addition, it is very special to be able to work in this institute with so much expertise.
