Bass Black
Bas Zwart studied medicine and medical biology at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. After the medical exam, he conducted PhD research at the Central Laboratory of the Blood Transfusion Service (CLB; now Sanquin) in Amsterdam on the removal of dead cells in healthy people and patients with autoimmune diseases. He was then trained as a physician-microbiologist at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam. After this he worked at the Regional Microbiological Laboratory in Zaandam, later at Comicro in Hoorn. As an all-round physician-microbiologist he provided services to the Zaans Medical Center in Zaandam, the BovenIJ hospital in Amsterdam, the Waterland hospital in Purmerend and the Westfriesgasthuis in Hoorn. Until the dissolution of the Infection Prevention Working Group (WIP) in 2017, he was a member of the WIP's Expert Group on Nursing Homes, Residential Centres and Small-Scale Living for the Elderly.
