Brechtje Grotenhuis
Since 2019, I have been working as an oncological surgeon at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. After my training as a surgeon in Rotterdam, I followed a 2-year fellowship for oncological colorectal surgery at Erasmus MC. As a staff member at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, I am involved in the treatment of colorectal cancer patients, with a wide range of (robotic) operations for colorectal cancer and rectal cancer in various stages.
Above all, I have a specific interest in the organ-sparing treatment of rectal cancer, for which we have set up a special clinic at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. For each individual patient, we look at the possibilities of different treatment options with a whole team of specialists, in which the patient's wishes are central. I also do a lot of research into the optimal treatment for rectal cancer patients.
The multidisciplinary collaboration and the continuous improvement of care processes make it a privilege to work at the Netherlands Cancer Institute as an oncological surgeon.
