Mandy Gunderson - van den Akker
After completing my wound nurse training, I started working as a specialized wound nurse at the wound-stoma-continence clinic at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in 2020. Together with my colleagues, I run both a scheduled outpatient clinic and an emergency outpatient clinic and I work within the clinic. It is a challenging and diverse job because I have to deal with different specialisms and varied activities that require a lot of creativity. Every patient is unique and it is great to be able to offer appropriate care for the individual need, where psychosocial support is important.
The developments in the field require me to remain actively involved in training myself and that makes me even more motivated. The Antoni van Leeuwenhoek is a relatively small hospital and I think it's a big plus that the lines are short and I have nice colleagues to work with.
