Tom Leuverink

Since 2018, I have been working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute as an anesthesiologist-intensivist.

As an anesthesiologist, I am responsible, together with my colleagues, for the care surrounding the operation and in particular the pain management after the operation. I also work as an intensivist. Sometimes it happens that patients need intensive care after their surgery or treatment. In such a case, they are then admitted to the intensive care unit and there the intensivist is the responsible doctor. What makes this profession so special is that you can often mean a lot to people during this drastic and exciting time in their lives.

The Netherlands Cancer Institute offers me the opportunity to carry out both specializations in a small-scale setting, where highly complex and leading care is nevertheless provided.
