Joanna Kaplon-Hoekstra

Since 2020, I have been working as a clinical chemist at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI). Before this, I did PhD research at the NKI on the causes and treatment options of melanoma. Within the general clinical laboratory, I am co-responsible for the laboratory diagnostics that we perform on a daily basis for patient care.

I like working at the NKI because patients receive tailor-made treatment here and because a lot of research is being done to improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The general clinical laboratory supports many of these studies. In addition, we also conduct our own research into (tumor) markers to enable an earlier diagnosis and better monitoring of therapy for different types of cancer.
