In 1995, the Polikliniek Familial Tumoren was established in the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI). Here we conduct research into mutations in the genetic material of genes that are largely responsible for certain forms of hereditary cancer, such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer and colon cancer. In recent years, developments in DNA diagnostics have been very rapid. By applying these developments in practice, we hope to detect even more families with a hereditary predisposition to cancer.
