I have been working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute as a dietitian since 2010. I specialized in nutrition for people receiving treatment to the head and neck region and see patients of the radiation oncology department. We aim to help people in terms of nutrition after they have been diagnosed with cancer. We use the new insights gathered through research and studies to ensure that our patients and colleagues receive proper guidance and information about nutrition. Patients who know how to eat healthy during and after their treatment often experience a sense of peace and increase their odds of recovery. As dietitians, we have to make sure that our specialization is involved throughout the complete treatment process of our patients.
