Marielle Ruijs

I have been working as a medical geneticist at the Netherlands Cancer Institute since 2009. I mainly see breast cancer patients, but also work with patients with other tumors like colorectal cancer, sarcomas, melanomas, brain tumors, or kidney cancer.

My focus area is Li-Fraumeni syndrome. This is a rare hereditary condition, encompassing multiple cancer types (breast cancer, brain tumors, and sarcomas), often at a young age. I completed my PhD research on the topic in 2010. At the NKI we are working to further map out and improve guidance and screening for people with Li-Fraumeni.
