Marijke Hagmeijer

I have been working as a medical geneticist consultant at the Hereditary Cancer Clinic since January 2014. My role consists of consultations with people looking for advice about cancer and genetics. I discuss whether the medical history and/or family history is a reason to examine a potential genetic component in the development of breast or ovarian cancer, colon cancer, and melanoma. I consult with patients themselves, or a patient's family members.

Examining a potential hereditary predisposition for the development of cancer can be relevant for the patient's treatment advice, periodical screenings, or potential preventative surgery.

It is important to me that patients dealing with genetic testing receive the best information, guidance, and support possible.
