Marijke Wijnsma

Since 2020, I have been working as a medical social worker at the Center for Quality of Life. I help people with the emotional and social problems that arise from illness. I do this for patients and their loved ones, during treatment and afterwards.

Together we look at how you can deal with difficult situations. We also look for your personal sources of strength. These can be things that help you, such as how to respond to difficult moments or to people around you. By paying attention to emotions and looking for a new balance, you can better deal with the treatment and recovery afterwards.

My special area of interest is intimacy and sexuality. As a Sexual Health Consultant, I guide patients – and also partners – with questions about this. Sexuality is an important part of human well-being. Cancer and its treatment can affect this. I listen carefully, think along with you and together we look for solutions that suit you.

I think it is special to be able to work at the AVL. There is a warm and pleasant atmosphere, and the patient and their loved ones are always central.
