Since 1995, I have been conducting scientific research with my colleagues into the quality of life of people with (an increased risk of) cancer. I think it is important that in the conversations between doctors, nurses and patients, attention is always paid to any psychosocial problems. We try to increase this attention through our studies.
We also investigate the experiences with (preventive) operations and check-ups in people with a hereditary predisposition to cancer. With this knowledge, we hope to improve care by better informing new patients and reducing or preventing unpleasant consequences. I have great admiration for the resilience that patients and their loved ones, in the sometimes difficult times, show time and again.
