Floor van Leeuwen
I have been working as an epidemiologist at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) since 1981. I conduct research on cancer risk factors, especially breast cancer and the late side effects of cancer treatment.
The chances of survival are constantly improving. Therefore, it becomes even more important to find out whether radiotherapy, chemotherapy or hormones also have adverse effects in the long term. For example, on healthy organs and tissues. Based on results from research, we adjust treatments so that we can prevent damage at a later stage. The close cooperation between researchers and practitioners makes the NKI a special working environment.
