Monique de Jong

In 2007, I started my PhD research at the Netherlands Cancer Institute and a specialization as a radiation oncologist ('radiation doctor'). I specialize in lung tumors, esophageal tumors and hematological tumors.

My work remains interesting every day because I consult a lot with colleagues about the best combination with medication (such as targeted therapy or immunotherapy) and the best radiation techniques. In addition, I like to think about the best approach for the person behind the patient and I like to hear how people live their lives.

In the future, I hope to know more about the biological processes in tumor cells so that we can tailor our treatments accordingly. Fortunately, we work together with many good physicists and biologists for this.
