Regina Beets-Tan

I have been working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute as a radiologist since 2015. I lead an incredibly committed and skilled radiology team. We try to give our patients the best service possible, with high-quality diagnostics.

I specialize in abdominal cancer imaging, especially colon cancer. Besides my patient care, I conduct research with a focus on new developments in imaging techniques that can predict the effects of treatment.

I also conduct research into the role of imaging in new treatment types. A collaborative research project together with the surgical department showed that patients with rectal cancer who respond well to radiation and whose tumor has entirely disappeared can have a better quality of life with an alternative "watch-and-wait" treatment approach consisting of very regular screenings, instead of surgery. Modern imaging can help is find the patients who would benefit most from this treatment.
