Stijn Heijmink

I have been working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute since 2011. Besides regular oncological imaging, I specialize in prostate cancer imaging with MRI scans. This imaging plays an increasingly important role in determining the location and stage of the prostate tumor. Only with the most accurate diagnosis can a proper treatment plan be formulated. Continuous improvements in imaging and the application of new techniques are central to our diagnostics: new elements like diffusion-weighted imaging or dynamic contrast analysis are now commonly used in prostate imaging. In the future, we will be able to take tissue biopsies from prostate abnormalities guided by MRI imaging. This can further optimize prostate imaging quality.
