Since 2014 I have been working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute with great pleasure and enthusiasm. I am currently working as a speech therapist, PhD researcher and clinical projects manager within the department of head and neck oncology and surgery. From 2015 to 2020, I conducted a PhD on the outcomes in the field of voice, functional problems and quality of life in patients with a total laryngectomy. This is an operation in which the larynx is removed. During my training as a speech therapist, I already became interested in the medical side of speech therapy. Within my master's degree in speech therapy science and my PhD research, I learned the importance of scientific developments to help treatments move forward. The combination with clinical practice is essential for me. I would like to be able to do something for patients when they are affected by problems with speaking or swallowing as a result of cancer.
