I have been working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute since 2014 and am happy and motivated in my work. I currently work as a speech therapist and (post-PhD) researcher and clinical projects manager at the head and neck oncology and surgery department. Between 2015 and 2020, I conducted my PhD research into patients with total laryngectomies - the surgical removal of the larynx. During my speech therapy studies I first became interested in the medical side of speech therapy. During my Master's studies and PhD track I learned the importance of scientific developments in order to promote treatment. For me, the combination with clinical practice is essential. I want to be able to be there for patients who are experiencing problems speaking or swallowing as a result of cancer.
