Nanda Wiegman

I have been working as a smoking cessation coach since 2009. My background is an oncology nurse and I bring my years of experience of working in a clinical department at the NKI at the smoking cessation clinic.

Quitting smoking can be difficult and for some patients is a process of trial and error. Explanation of the addiction mechanism, the difference between psychological addiction and physical addiction, the role of nicotine substitutes in this, is important. Tailor-made looking at what is helpful for each patient, looking at what meaning smoking had and investigating the motivation are important parts of the guidance. Quitting smoking can be linked to problems with stress management, other psychological problems, but also, for example, to weight gain and wanting to exercise more. We can think along with you, give advice and, if necessary, refer you to our colleagues from the CKVL or beyond.
