Maaike van de Kamp
After graduating as a doctor at the University of Amsterdam, I followed my training as a urologist at the OLVG West and Amsterdam UMC location AMC from 2010 to 2015. In 2016, I did my fellowship at the Netherlands Cancer Institute and obtained my certificate in robotic surgery. I then worked as a staff urologist at Erasmus MC. Since August 2019, I have been working as a urologist at the Netherlands Cancer Institute and involved in bladder, prostate, testicular and penis and kidney cancer care.
At the Netherlands Cancer Institute, we work in a specialized bladder cancer team and draw up a tailor-made treatment plan for each patient. Through good regional cooperation, we ensure care in the right place. We have innovative and (inter)national studies underway, some in collaboration with oncology. In operations, we use the latest techniques, such as the Da Vinci Robot, navigation and fluorescence. This allows us to continuously improve the treatment of bladder cancer. Together with fellow urologist Brouwer, I am active in the testis team and we make multidisciplinary decisions regarding the treatment of metastatic testicular cancer.
In addition to my work as a urologist, I also work part-time as Medical Head of OR, where I am responsible for the (medical) operations in the operating room department together with the Head of OR. Streamlining patient flows, medically substantive decisions regarding quality and safety, but also doing studies in the operating rooms, holding and recovery fall under my supervision. Medical head OR is the spider in the web of team leaders, OR assistants, incision medical specialists, anesthesiologists, planners and cluster management.
