Lizet van der Kolk
I have been working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) since 2009. At my consultations, I see many breast cancer patients, but also patients with other tumors, such as colon cancer, stomach cancer, melanoma or kidney cancer. Women are very regularly referred for rapid diagnostics to hereditary breast cancer. This is done if the results of the genetic test (DNA diagnostics) may have consequences for the treatment plan. We will then provide a quick result (within 4 weeks).
I think it is important that women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer are informed as well as possible about the possible treatment options in their situation, and genetic testing can play a major role in this.
