Bernies van der Hiel

As a nuclear medicine physician at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, I am involved in the diagnosis and treatment of various tumors using radioactive substances. My areas of interest are melanoma and head and neck oncology. I have specialized in detecting metastases and evaluating treatment with the PET scan and imaging of gatekeeper nodes prior to surgery.

At the Netherlands Cancer Institute, there is a great deal of knowledge and expertise in the field of many tumours. Staff are all highly motivated to provide good patient care and make scientific progress. As an imaging specialist, we try to contribute to scientific research in addition to providing good patient care. For example, by using imaging to look at tumor characteristics and investigate how we can optimize the patient's individual treatment process.
