Stijn Heijmink

Since 2011 I have been working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI). In addition to general oncological imaging, I am particularly specialized in the imaging of prostate cancer by MRI scan. This imaging plays an increasingly important role in determining the location and stage of prostate cancer. Only with optimal determination of this can the right choice of therapy be made. Continuous improvement in imaging and the application of new techniques is one of the characteristics of our diagnostics: new elements such as diffusion-weighted imaging and dynamic contrast analysis have become commonplace in prostate imaging. In the future, it will be possible to produce MRI-guided biopsies from abnormalities in the prostate based on the images.  With this, we further optimize the standard of prostate imaging.
