Esther White

I have been working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute since 2013, the first year as a fellow in oncological urology, then as a staff member. The urological team is continuously improving care for patients with prostate, bladder, kidney, penile and testicular cancer in response to the latest scientific developments. This allows us to offer patients the most innovative care.

My specific interest is in the treatment of patients with prostate and bladder cancer. I have mainly focused on performing operations with the help of the Da Vinci robot. Through monthly quality cycles, in which the results are evaluated per operator, we try to improve the quality of the operation. We do this together with our partners within the Prostate Cancer Network Netherlands (and in the future also within the Bladder Cancer Network). By sharing knowledge and expertise, with critical evaluation of the operation results, we hope to achieve even better treatment results for the patient. In terms of scientific research, I focus on the sentinel lymph node procedure in prostate cancer, and I hope to be able to obtain my PhD on this soon.

Within the NKI, we work in a multidisciplinary manner and in focus groups for each tumor type, in which we always strive for the best tailor-made care for each patient, together with fellow specialists. But also for complex surgery, such as fistula surgery after previous cancer treatment, short lines of communication with fellow specialists are important in order to jointly map out the best treatment strategy for the patient. This is very important to me and makes working in this hospital unique.
