Cindy Hollander

I have been working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute since 2022. Before this, I worked as an (oncology) nurse and nurse specialist (in training) in two other hospitals in departments specialized in oncology. Here I gained knowledge and experience within internal oncology in a broader sense.

Since I have been working as a nurse specialist at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, I have focused on the specialty of internal urology. This means that my focus is on patients with prostate cancer, bladder cancer and penile cancer who are undergoing medicinal treatment. This can include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy and hormonal therapy or a combination of these, as standard treatment or in research. During these often intensive treatments, I find it of added value as a nurse specialist to stand next to the patient, to look together at what is needed, what the wishes and needs are and what can help to take someone further in the best possible way. Even when treatment is no longer sufficient.

Another area of focus for me is the care of patients with testicular cancer, during treatment and in follow-up. This group of patients is often in the AYA age, between 18 and 35 years, which requires specific age-related care and attention, which is experienced as valuable by patients.
