NKI Skin Cancer and Melanoma Center
From rapid diagnostics for suspicious skin abnormalities to advanced treatments, surgical procedures, and aftercare: you can come to us for the entire care process. We offer the latest treatment methods, based on the latest scientific insights, including innovations in immunotherapy and targeted therapies, which allow us to personalize treatment for melanoma and other skin cancers. Where necessary, we also offer psychological and practical support during your treatment and recovery.
In addition, we pay a lot of attention to the prevention of skin cancer and the early detection of suspicious conditions in clients with an increased risk of skin cancer. We do this at the AVL Center for Early Diagnostics.
What can you expect?
First appointment
Your doctor has referred you to the NKI Skin and Melanoma Centre. The diagnosis may already be clear, or your doctor may want to have you examined for a suspicious abnormality. During your first appointment, you will have a conversation with the surgeon, the assistant or the nurse specialist. This will map out your current symptoms and medical history. A physical examination will also take place. This results in global findings that usually require further investigation.
Research
If more testing is needed, we will schedule follow-up appointments for additional diagnostic tests.
Team meeting
Once all the results of the diagnostic phase are known, your situation will be discussed in a multidisciplinary meeting. This is a consultation with a group of specialists who specialize in skin cancer and melanoma. They will discuss which treatment is best for you.
Conversation treatment plan
The doctor will discuss the treatment plan with you. You will decide together how you will be treated. At the Netherlands Cancer Institute, we think it is important that you have a say in your treatment. You are an equal discussion partner for us.
Treatment
After this, your treatment will start.
